Wadhal
Wadhal is an architecture studio in London, founded by Fahad Malik. Wadhal translates to an increase, surplus or the notion of exceeding limitations. It is the regional name for a tribe associated with Mianwali, Namal Lake and the surrounding land in Pakistan. In this context, it is used as an abstract term to represent a contemplative disposition, a considered approach to living and working, fully cherishing every facet of the process.
Fahad was born in Islamabad and lived there for 9 years, then spending 9 years in London and the following 9 years in Glasgow. He conceived Wadhal upon moving back to London as a platform to record observations, experiences, and ideas. Over time, people resonated with Wadhal and it transformed into a practice, creating places specific to culture, typology, and climate.
Fahad was Senior Architect at Tonkin Liu before starting an independent practice, having previously worked for Teatum + Teatum, Dualchas Architects and the Commonwealth Games. With a wealth of experience taking projects from conception to completion, he continues to work for clients with a shared longing for beauty, environmental responsibility and reflection.
